I admit that I did not expect to like this novel as I am not a follower of the mystery novel genre. However, Ms Saari made me a convert. She writes so well, that she makes it look easy; one does not see the laborious process of writing in her prose--this is high praise indeed. Her transitions are seamless, her characters are fleshed out so adeptly that I found myself falling in love with Lorna and her brother Poe. The writer utilizes clever word play without being obvious or cute.
Ms. Saari is so adept at storytelling that she does not get in the way of its swing as so many writers are apt to do. The climax is riveting and the resolution is such as to make it satisfying without obliterating that inherently important spark of mystery--there is a suggestion of the maybe of the morrow. This is the thinking man or woman's answer to escapism--you will find pleasure in the reading of this book without feeling guilty about it. Osgood Fielding This intricate and fast-paced mystery of murder in high places is also a delightful romp through the landmarks of New York City. Anyone who loves the city and has spent time here will get a kick out of heroine Lorna Raven's traipse through precincts well known and not so well known (except to us life-long denizens of the Big Apple) as she tries to unravel the twists and turns of nefarious doings among the rich and famous and politically well connected. Inspired fun with well defined, quirky characters who ring true to life. Lorna's junk food passions will also put a smile on the lips of anyone who ever lusted after the world's best cheeseburger and fries. Stir up a Manhattan, kick back, and curl up for a very fun read.
